1996 Dakota State University Hall of Fame Recipients

Cliff Anderson is a 1973 graduate of Dakota State University. He is currently the Junior High Principal at Spanaway Junior High in Tacoma, Washington.
Cliff was named to the SDIC All Conference 1st team for 3 consecutive years, 1971-1973, in Basketball. He was also named All District 1971-72 season and 1972-1973 season. Cliff also earned All-American honors in 1973. He averaged 29.4 points per game without a 3 point line with a 52.6 field goal percentage. During the 1972-1973 season, Cliff had four games with 40 plus points per game. Cliff also had a single season total points record of 654 points during the 1972-1973. Anderson's career rebounding record from 1969-73 was 942.

Cliff also excelled on the Football field. He played in the wide receiver position and started all four years of his career. #84 had a season best of 40 plus catches in 1972. He played on the Championship Boothill Bowl team. He had the longest touchdown in DSC history of 72 yards in 1970 and played with one of the best receiving corps in DSC history which included Darwin Robinson, Dan Stratton and Daryl Fletcher.

Anderson, also participated in Track and was SDIC Conference High Jump Champion and record holder in 1970. He participated in baseball for 3 years with a batting average of .300 and was named to 2nd team All-SDIC prior to knee surgery.

Cliff is married to wife Connie and they have 2 children, daughter Tera and son Kim.

George Blankley -Many a former student and athlete will remember George Blankley. He taught Physical Education from 1962 to 1984. Coach Blankley took on the role of Head Football Coach from 1962-67. His record of 23-26-1 gave him a winning percentage of .470. George also coached Track and Field and assisted with Football several years there after. He taught many students about fishing and camping.

George and his wife Shirley can usually be found fishing or gardening since his retirement in 1984.

Monica Matthies-Severson graduated from Dakota State in 1985. While at her alma mater, she gained many honors in women's basketball. She was named NAIA Academic All American in 1984. Monica was NAIA All American, Honorable Mention in 1985 and gained All District-12 honors in 1984 and 1985. She was named to the SDIC All Conference team in 1984 and 1985. She was the SDIC Most Valuable Player in 1984. Severson was named DSU Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year in 1984-85 and was named DSU Alumni Coach of the Year in 1993.
Severson has taught and coached at Wartburg College since 1988. She was named Converse Coach of the Year for Division III District 6 in 1993. She is ranked the 6th winningest active women's basketball coach for Division III with an overall record of 157-52.

Monica was named the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coach of the year in 1992. SHe earned Conference titles in 1990 and 1992. Her teams have made six NCAA appearances with "Final 8" finishes in 1992 and 1993.
Monica and her husband Scott have 2 children.

Sally Kirkegaard-Wiggins graduated from Dakota State College in 1974. Sally was one of the first recognized female athletes at Dakota State. She was a member of the Women's Recreation Association. This was established prior to women's athletics being officially recognized at Dakota State. She participate din track, basketball and softball.

Sally has taught school and coached in Wyoming, Connecticut and New York. She has held several positions as Wellness Director for YMCA and is currently working with IBM.

Sally and her husband Greg have two daughters, Amanda and Angela.
