Trojans get first DAC-10 wins; beat VCSU and Mayville

Dakota State University's inside game got on track Friday and Saturday in North Dakota as the Trojans collected their first Dakota Athletic Conference men's basketball wins of the season.

"All weekend long, our post play was solid," said Tim Schuring, DSU's head coach. "Matt Nulle took the lead for us on Friday and Orion Garo picked it up for us on Saturday."

On Friday, the Trojans handed Valley City State University a 72-65 loss, helped in part by Nulle's 14 points. On Saturday, the Trojans topped Mayville State 78-70 as Garo snapped in a squad-tops 16 points.

"On Friday, we were able to get a jump on VCSU early, and we gained a certain amount of confidence," added Schuring. "When Valley City made runs at us, we were able to respond with our own. On Saturday, that confidence just continued."

"Sweeping on the road in the DAC-10 is a tall task," said Schuring. "We'll ride this momentum into this weekend and see what happens."

DSU, now 4-11 overall and 2-4 in the conference, hosts S.D. Tech Saturday and Black Hills State Sunday. Both games start at 7 p.m. in the DSU Fieldhouse.
