By Dan Holsworth-Sports Editor, Madison Daily Leader

Dakota State University raced to its first win of the season -- a 72-66 decision over Morningside College -- Friday in first-round play in the Famous Dave's-USF Men's Basketball Classic in Sioux Falls.

On Saturday, however, the Trojans fell 84-65 to the University of Sioux Falls and came away with a 1-1 split in action on the Stewart Center's court.

DSU (1-2) next hosts the Ed Harter Invitational in the DSU Fieldhouse Friday and Saturday.

The Trojans play Iowa Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Friday and Waldorf College at 5 p.m. Saturday.

"I love our team," said DSU Coach Tim Schuring. "Our players have the mentality it takes to improve day to day and week to week. That's the bottom line for us: steady improvement. We're going to have to find a way to sustain an effort for 40 minutes."
