DSU's Schuring to Tour Australia

Dakota State Men’s Basketball Coach Tim Schuring is headed “down under”.  He will be the head coach of a collegiate level All-Star Basketball Team made up of athletes from around America.  The team will represent the United States at the 2003 Arafurat Games in Darwin, Australia, and is sponsored by USA Athletes International Inc. from Overland Park, KS.

Schuring is scheduled to leave for Los Angeles on May 13, where they will unite with his team for a day of practices before reaching Darwin on May 15.  The team will then play 6 games in seven days against other all-star teams from around the world before returning home on May 27.

Coach Schuring, along with Assistant Coach Dave Martin (Upper Iowa University) will coach the only basketball team representing the United States at the event.  Members of the squad include:  Doug Murphy, Washburn University (KS); Bryan Uselding, Benedictine University (KS); Dennis Stanton, Ursinus College (PA): Brandon Snowden, Berea College (KY); Robert Smith, North Carolina Wesleyan University; Anthony Polito, Central College (IA); Adam Lewis, Milwaukee School of Engineering (WI); Scott Landisch, Ripon College (WI); William Brown, Texas A&M University- Kingsville.

USA Athletes International Inc. is the same organization which sent former DSU All-American Jason Smidt to Australia last summer.  Smidt’s team played in the Down Under Games in Townsville and took home the silver medal.
