Nicol, Konopasek Named NAIA

Academic All-Americans


The Dakota State University Men’s Basketball Team posted two young men on the prestigious Daktronics NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete team for 2003.  

Brandon Nicol, a junior, guard from Graettinger, IA and Kyle Konopasek, a junior guard  from Verdigre, NE were both named All-American Scholar Athletes for the first time in their respective careers at Dakota State.

Nicol, the Trojans leading assist man for the 2002-2003 season started nearly every game for DSU this season and was marked as the team’s defensive specialist.  He will graduate in the spring of 2004 with a major in exercise science. Brandon resides in Madison with his wife Jill who is also in the exercise science field.   

Kyle Konopasek completed his third season as a Trojan in 2003.  As well as establishing himself as an outstanding student, Kyle has also been very active in other campus activities. Presently he serves as a student academic tutor and is a resident assistant and acting hall director at the university.  Kyle is scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2004 with a degree in MIS/ Finance.

Each recipient of this award must maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5 or better and be of junior academic status at their respective institutions.
