Guidelines for Major-field Assessment

One component of the DSU Assessment Plan is major field assessment.   Although each major will have unique goals and outcomes, we will use a common format to document the information.

Please use the following outline as a guide and submit this information to the Assessment Office.

____ A. Copy of goals, outcomes and assessment criteria.

____ B. Copy of the proposed assessment process
(including assessment tests, if applicable)

____ C. Brief statements describing:

____   1. Relation of goals to DSU mission.

____   2. Faculty involvement in development of goals, outcomes and criteria (i.e., college committees).

____   3. Validity and reliability of assessment instrument, if applicable.

____   4. Program/curriculum review (i.e., how do faculty use the results of assessment activities for program review).

____   5. Method for providing feedback to graduates.

____   6. Specific dates for implementation, if not already in place.

Examples of assessment criteria used to set the standards for the outcomes: course grades, graduate and employer surveys, computer skills assessment data, satisfaction surveys, MFAT test scores, exit surveys, exit interviews, portfolios, proficiency tests, and locally-developed exams.  If you have questions or need additional information, please contact the Assessment Office at 256-5663 or by e-mail at carrie.ahern@dsu.edu
