INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS COMMITTEE

Committee Overview / Goals: Dr. Wittmayer provided an overview of the purposes of IEC responsibilities and progress to date, including an update on each goal established for 2003-04.

The following goals were proposed and approved for 2004-05:

• Complete 2003-04 goals
• Develop Enrollment Management plan
• Provide guidance to the campus on the accreditation process
• Sub-committee A – provide feedback on unit plans
• Sub-committee B – provide baseline data, set benchmarks and analyze progress.
• Spring – evaluate standards of performance and develop action plans, highlight accomplishments.

Enrollment Management Plan: Noel-Levitz has requested a detailed enrollment management plan by October 29. A sample of the plan based on initiatives pulled from the unit plans was shown and discussed. It was agreed that Carrie and Amy could go forward in the development and will provide periodic feedback to the committee on progress.

AQIP vs. PEAQ: An overview of the PEAQ (self-study prepared to evaluate progress over past 10 years) accreditation process and the AQIP (on-going review utilizing strategic planning and improvement projects on a 7-year cycle). If we decide to move to AQIP, we need to apply this fall in order to remain on the same timeline as we would have been under PEAQ.

Committee members shared their individual opinions on the two processes. This feedback will be forwarded to the Vice Presidents Council for consideration.

• AQIP appears to be more time-intensive and will require input of many people across campus
• Risk in following AQIP if we can’t complete the necessary work to meet the timetable
• AQIP is forward-looking while PEAQ evaluates what has already happened.
• AQIP would keep the campus focused on future planning and make everyone accountable for their unit plans on a continuous basis (rather than developing the plans and then shelving them)
• PEAQ was normally completed by a small committee while AQIP will require ownership across campus
• PEAQ review is becoming more data-driven as well, so similar assessment (to AQIP) will need to take place

We will check with Higher Learning Commission to see if they provide a reviewer to help us in making the decision on whether or not we have adequate processes in place to be successful under AQIP.
