Dakota State University
Reports Career Placement
Rates for Class of 2001
Despite the slowing economy, Dakota State University officials reported an astonishing 95% overall career placement success rate for the Class of 2001. Several areas reported 100% placement: Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, English for Information Systems, Health Information Administration, Respiratory Care, and Elementary Education/Special Learning Behaviors. Business Administration and Elementary Education were close behind, at 93% each.
“The slowing economy did not seem to affect the job market for DSU’s graduates. Our technology based programs combined with the high academic success of our students drive employers to vie for the attention of DSU graduates,” said Marie Lohsandt, Director of Career and Placement Services at DSU.
According to Lohsandt, the highest average salary was reported in the Computer Science and Computer Information Systems areas with an average of $38,243 and $36,791. The overall starting average salary for the Class of 2001 was $28,410.
She also noted that education graduates saw more job offers than in previous years and the average teaching salary was $25,396.
Geographically, 80% of Dakota State graduates placed in their field chose to remain in South Dakota, an increase of 10% from last year. Of the teacher education graduates, 72% accepted positions within the state. A full 82% of computer science graduates accepted positions in South Dakota.
