Ring, ring... Hello?
Hello, this is...
Meet our phonathon students!

Hi, I’m Amanda from Viborg, South Dakota. I am the student manager for phonathon. My parents are John and Connie. I also have one sister, Michelle, who also attends DSU. I am a senior majoring in elementary and special education. I will be student teaching next semester. I chose DSU because I wanted a good education program that I could get my computer endorsement with education degree.

I’m Jessica. I grew up on a farm outside Carpenter, SD (town of less than 20 people). I graduated from Willow Lake high school in Willow Lake, SD. I chose DSU because the people here were really friendly. DSU also offered the major that I wanted, Multi-media/Web development. Now that I'm here, I like that the professors genuinely seem to care about me as a person and my progress as a student. I like the phonathon because I get to hear about all of the great experiences that the DSU alums have had at this campus over the years. Probably the most unique thing about me would be my experiences this past semester. The house that my friends and I rent in Madison was struck by lightning and started on fire on Sept. 20. Four days later, I totaled my car in an accident in Sioux Falls. I came out of both unhurt and with a new appreciation for God and insurance.

I am Sarah and I am 19 years old. I am from Estelline, SD. My parents are Dave and Sue. I have one sister, Rachel, and one brother, Alan. This is my second year at DSU. My major is Management Information Systems. I chose DSU because it was close to home, but not too close. I liked the fact that it is a smaller school and it had a good reputation. Everyone here is so friendly; faculty, staff, and the students.

I have been in band since I was in the 5th grade and jazz band since my freshmen year in high school, and have continued playing in both the band and jazz band here at the college. We recently got a new director and are in the process of recruiting new people and making the band grow. We gave our first performance this year on Dec. 9th and it was really good! Hopefully we have enough money for next year’s scholarships to keep our band growing.

I am in charge of all of the data input for phonathon. The phonathon gives students the chance to talk to the alumni of the college, and get to know them, and sometimes they get information about what this school was like in the past. Some of the stories I hear from the students who call are quite interesting.

Hello. I am Tracy. I graduated from Deuel High School in Clear Lake, South Dakota. My parents are Joy and Dennis. I have one sister, Jenny. I am a senior majoring in Elementary Education and Special Learning and Behavioral Problems. I will be student teaching next semester. I chose to attend DSU because they have a strong education program. I like calling for phonathon because I like to interact with people. Through phonathon, I have learn about some interesting things that have happened at DSU.

My name is Stacey. My home town is Parkston, SD. My parents are Dannie and Glenda. I am the oldest of five children. I have two brothers, Brandon, 19, and Kevin, 9. I also have two sisters, Amanda, 17, and Dana, 6.

I am a junior at Dakota State University majoring in Information Systems. I have been a men’s basketball cheerleader and the DSU choir’s accompanist for the past 3 years. I also am a tutor for computer programming. After I finish my bachelors degree, I plan on continuing my education at DSU by getting my masters in Information Systems.

I chose to attend DSU because I wanted to go into computers and I heard they were the best around. I like DSU because the faculty and students are all very nice and it is easy to get involved in an activity that I am interested in.

I like working for the phonathon because I like to answer the questions that the alumni have about DSU. It makes my job more enjoyable when I can actually carry a conversation with that certain alumni.

Hi. I’m Jennifer. I am from Valley Springs, SD. My parents are David and Anna, and I have two sisters Kristie and Laurie. I am a graduate of Brandon-Valley High School. I started my college career at South Dakota State University in Brookings. I was a student there for 3 years before I transferred here to Dakota State University and I am now a Senior Elementary Education Major. I decided to transfer to DSU because I heard that they had an excellent teacher education program. I like DSU because of the smaller class sizes and the teacher availability. I like the DSU Phonathon because I enjoy talking with people and I also enjoy helping to raise funds that support DSU's Annual Fund Campaign.

Hello, my name is Tyson and I grew up and lived in Mitchell, SD all my life. My mom and dad are Bob and Kathy. I have two older sisters that are identical twins and are 22. I am the youngest at 20.

I am currently a junior at DSU and transferred in from Black Hills State University. I was attending BHSU for a major in Biology and decided to change my major to Computer Science. I chose to attend DSU since I heard that they have a great computer program. Computers have always been my second choice so I thought I would give it a shot at DSU. Also DSU is very close to home and is the best around for computers. I visited with some professors and they all seem to be interested in what I have to say. It may be a small college, but it is growing. If you want to get involved it is easy to do so because of the size.

I wanted to be involved with phonathon because I like to interact with the alumni and answer any questions that they have about DSU. Also it is fun to work and talk to the alumni since they have different things to say and every call is different.

Greetings to all the DSU alums, the name’s Nathan. I was raised on a farm north of Gettysburg, SD (town in central SD 20 miles east of the Missouri river). I attended Lincoln Lucas Country School from K thru 7th grade. I began attending Gettysburg High School the following year after the country school was closed for good. I graduated in from GHS in 2000 with a class of 39 students. I decided to attend Dakota State University because I thought that I would benefit with the some class sizes, which gives students more of a one on one feeling. Second, with the college nationally recognized for its computer skills, I felt that that would stand out a bit more on a resume. Finally and truthfully I wanted to attend DSU because I did not know a single person when I came here, I wanted to come to school as a fresh face and meet everyone for who I am and not use a friend as a crutch to meet people. I am currently a second year student and am residing in the brand new 8-plexes that the school built over the summer, directly west of the Dakota Prairie Play House. I am majoring in Business Administrations and currently enjoying the college life.

Hi, my name is Renae. I grew up in a small town in southwest Minnesota called Ellsworth. I went to school at Ellsworth Public School for 13 years. My parents are Dave and Becky, and I have an older sister, Amie, and a younger brother, Ryan. I came to Dakota State University to receive degrees in Management and Finance. What caught my eye about DSU is that it is such a small, friendly and clean environment. A few of my high school teachers had recommended that I check into the college if I wanted to go into business. I would have to say they had some great advice and I took them up on that. Now here I am, working for the DSU Foundation and having a great experience at Dakota State. I am currently in my second year, and it has been a blast. I have met a lot of friends and shared many memories with them that I will never forget.

Hello. My name is Steve. My parents are Conrad and Melodee.  Cando, North Dakota is my hometown. I have one older brother, he is in his first year as a medical student in Downers Grove, Illinois. I also have one younger brother who is a junior at Cando High School. I am on the golf team here at DSU. This is my first year of phonathon. I enjoy letting alumni know what's going on at DSU.

Hi. My name is Vanessa. I am from California. I graduated from San Gabriel High. I am a freshman here at DSU. I am majoring in Elementary Education because I enjoy being around kids. I decided to come to DSU because my boyfriend received a scholarship to play football here. I am glad I decided to come here because I have met a lot of nice people that have helped me a lot. I enjoy calling all of the alumni and talking to them because they are so nice and they go out of their way to talk to me.

Hi, my name is Jennie and I am currently a sophomore at DSU pursuing a major in Business Administration and a minor in Multi-media Web Design. I grew up on a farm outside of White, South Dakota with my parents, Norris and Corinne, and my two older brothers, Tony and Terry. I graduated in a class of 26 from Deubrook Area High School in White in May of 2000. I choose DSU because of the great reputation the school had for its technology and education. I like working for the phonathon because it gives me a chance to ask people what they liked about DSU and to know how appreciative people are of DSU and willing to give their support.
