Class Notes

1920’s

Gladys Hershey, ’25, lives in Rapid City. She is a retired government teacher. She got her masters degree from the University of New Mexico.

1940’s

Marguerite (Fritz) Atkins,  '40-'42, taught in Canistota for two years. She then married Alvin Atkins in 1944, on his return from the Pacific during WW11. Marguerite and Alvin have four sons, Thomas, Charles, Paul, and Peter. Marguerite received her B.S. Degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls and returned to teaching in Sioux Falls after their sons were in school. She taught there for 20 years until retiring. They then lived in southern Texas for nine years and Marugerite volunteered in the school systems there, teaching remedial reading and language. They then returned to S. D. and now live in Tea, close to her birthplace.  She enjoys spending time with her family which includes six grandsons and one granddaughter. She did volunteer work and substituted for many years in Sioux Falls. She has become a "cyberspace grandmother " according to her grandchildren. She and her husband have traveled extensively and still enjoy visiting their sons and families.   Marguerite also enjoys visits with her former roommate at Gen. Beadle in 1941-42, Rosamond (Dixon) Cecil, who lives in Madison. 

1950’s

Wilma (Nagelhout) Scott, ’51, lives in Castlewood. Wilma taught for 3 years before she married her husband, Eugene Scott, in 1952. She started working again in 1967 and worked at numerous and various types of work including 7 ½ years as an Avon Sales Representative in Northern Minnesota where her husband worked 17 years in a Taconite Mine. They left there after numerous layoffs and went into Motel Management for 9 ½ years. They spent 8 ½ of those years at Motel 6 in Sioux Falls before retiring in April of 1996. Eugene passed away in February of 1999. Wilma is now retired. They have five grown children: Dennis, Malinda, Douglas, Jeffrey, and Bradley.

1960’s

Leroy Person, ’64, and wife, Donna, live in Huron. They have three grown sons: Todd, Troy, and Travis. Leroy works for Farmers Union Insurance as an agent.

David Thoreson, ’69, and wife, Kathy, live in Leonard, North Dakota. David is the Pastor of Leonard Lutheran Parish in Leonard, ND. He has been there since 1980. David is also active in the Fargo Moorhead Community Theatre and Harwood Prairie Players. Kathy is a social worker and the Vice President of Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota. David and Kathy have three grown children; Kjersti, Molly, and Joshua and three grandchildren.

1970’s

Barb (Langland) Hadorn, ’70,and husband, Jim, have lived in Milbank for 24 years. Barb is a physical education teacher at Big Stone City School and Jim is a science teacher and athletic director at the Milbank Schools. They have three children, Julie, Scott, and Jana. They also have one granddaughter, Sydney. Their second grandchild is due June of 2002.

Terry Crandall, ’74, is a counselor at Yankton High School and has been there for 21 years. He has a total of 26 years in education. Terry is in his 3rd term as mayor of Yankton and 4th term as City Commissioner. Terry has been married for 25 years to Catherine Dunn. Together they have three children: David 17, Caitlin 14, and Alex 6.

1980’s

Donna (Cross) Deinert, ’84, and husband, Dean live in Mount Vernon. Donna teaches Biology I, Biology II, Human Anatomy, and Physiology at Parkston High School. She has been there since 1989. Before that she taught for five years in Woonsocket.

Debbie (Daugaard) Cornish '86,and husband, Ron, live in Noblesville Indiana. Ron is a Customer Agronomist for Dow AgroSciences. Debbie is a stay at home mom. They have 3 children Sam, 5, Teal, 3, and Bree, 1.

Lynnette (Landsman) Jung, ‘87, was chosen as the Daktronics November Employee of the Month. She is currently a Product Scheduler in the Manufacturing Manager department. She joined the team at Daktronics fulltime in May 1992. She lives in Rutland.

Julie (Heinz) Johnson, ‘88, is an associate professor of physical education and head coach of women’s basketball and golf at Ripon College. She was recently named assistant athletic director. This job title will be an addition to her current duties. Julie has been at Ripon College since 1990.

Linda M. Timm, ’88, lives in Elkhorn, Nebraska where she is an Internal Revenue Agent for an Internal Revenue Service. She has been there since June 1988. She is also a part-time instructor at Nebraska College of Business. Linda received her Master of Business Administration from University of Nebraska at Omaha in May 2000.

Rick (attended 1984-1986) and Deb (Golz) Weber '87, live in Aberdeen. Rick is an outside salesperson for United Building Center. Deb is a Registered

Respiratory Therapist at Avera St Luke's. They are excited to announce the birth of their fourth child, Christopher Everett, born August 2, 2001. He is joined by Alyssa, age 11, Victoria, age 8, and Eric, age 4.

1990’s

Tammi Carmody, ‘92, and Dean Welch were married August 25, 2001. The couple live in Tea. Tammi is a middle school resource room teacher in the Lennox School District. Dean is a control technician for Climate Systems Inc. in Sioux Falls.

Susan Andal, ‘94, Bachelor Business Administration, is currently working at Home Federal Savings Bank, Sioux Falls, as a Loan Technical Analyst.  She recently moved back to her hometown of Parker, SD.  Also, she recently became engaged to Jason Ludens.  He also lives in Parker and works for Ludens Implement.  Jason's older brother and sister-in-law are Landon and Melissa (Swier) Ludens, both class of ’92. Susan and Jason are planning an April 2002 wedding.

Kristi (Bruening) Baker '94, was honored as one of the 2001 Ten Outstanding Young South Dakotans on November 17, 2001 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The South Dakota Junior Chamber of Commerce annually selects and honors Ten Outstanding Young South Dakotans. Each honoree is awarded the distinctive TOYSD trophy. Each winner is selected on the basis of achievement or contribution in areas such as personal improvement, accomplishment, philanthropic contribution, voluntary services, moral and religious leadership, and other areas as defined by the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Kristi L. (Knight) Osthus, ’95, and Chad Osthus reside in Watertown. They are the parents of a daughter, Morgan Mae born on April 24, 2000. Kristi is the Director of Health Information Management and Admissions at Prairie

Lakes Healthcare System in Watertown. Chad is a funeral director at Crawford Funeral Chapel.

Holly (Robinson) Rivera, ’95, and husband, Matthew, live in Topeka, Kansas. Holly is a behavior disorder teacher and will complete her master’s degree in special education from Emporia State University in December. She also is a grant writer for child advocacy offices. Matthew is a manager for Southwestern Bell. Holly and Matthew have two children, Madeline Maria is 3-years-old and Gabriella Sophia was born March 2, 2001.

Kelli Jo (Olthoff), ’95, and Bill McKelvey, ’96, live in Jefferson, South Dakota. Kelli works in Medical Records at Dunes Family Medicine in Dakota Dunes, SD. Bill is teaching and is the head boys high school basketball and football coach in Whiting, Iowa. He was named Iowa 8 man football coach of the year in 2000.

Nikki (Neu) Larsen, ’96, and husband Brady live in Lake Preston where Brady farms. Nikki teaches computers and is the assistant preschool teacher in Oldham. They have a 1+ year old daughter, Lexie.

Lynette (Lehrman) Weidenbach, ’96, married Barry Weidenbach on August 10, 2001 in Mitchell. Lynette is the site coordinator for the After-School Program in the Madison Central School District. Barry is a design draftsman at Gehl Company. The couple resides in Madison.

Amy (Hansen) Tvedt, ‘98, and Brian Tvedt, ’99, currently live in Clear Lake. Amy is in her fourth year of teaching at Deuel High School. She teaches high school math and computer classes. She also teaches Driver’s Education in the summer and is the head girl’s basketball and head girl’s track coach. Brian is in his third year at Deuel High School. He teaches high school industrial arts and is the head cross country and boy’s track coach. Brian and Amy’s son, Gannon Donald turned one on September 7, 2001.

Sunny (Dorman) Prouty, ’99, and Brian Prouty were married September 1, 2001 in Watertown. Sunny is currently a respiratory therapist at Community Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee, Wis. Sunny and Brian live in Milwaukee.

Andy DuBois, ‘99, and Jennifer Mehrens were married August 11, 2001. Jennifer teaches science at the Tea Middle School. After graduating from DSU, Andy received his teaching certificate in health and physical education from Augustana. He is a health/ PE teacher at Whittier Middle School. The couple lives in Sioux Falls.

2000’s

Bobbi Jo Bahmuller, ’00, married Jeremy Kyte on June 30, 2001. Bobbi Jo is a programmer analyst with Mutual of Omaha. Jeremy is a financial analyst with Beneficial Mortgage. The couple will live in Omaha.

Kim Wicks, ‘00, and Brad Kramer, ‘00, were married August 18, 2001. Kim is a computer programmer for Schwan’s Sales Enterprises in Marshall, MN. Brad is a preschool teacher at Discovery Center Preschool and Daycare in Marshall. The couple lives in Tracy, MN.
