Alice (Bickett) Johansen

Chuck Rohrer, ’72, was honored at the University of Washington Medical Center as the employee of the year in September of 2000. Chuck is the specimen processing technical coordinator for the laboratory of medicine, which consists of the University of Washington Medical Center, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and the Children’s Hospital. He has been largely responsible for transporting items and specimens between these hospitals, a process that is relatively new. Rohrer was instrumental in designing the color-code tracking forms, similar to those used by overnight package delivery firms. Designing process improvements like the SCCA tracking form is something that Rohrer has done several times in his 25 years with Lab Medicine. His supervisor wrote, “Continuous quality improvement is Chuck’s forte…He has taken ideas that have been bandied about for years and turned them into new tools, new procedures, and reallocated resources to benefit patients and staff.” Rohrer joined Laboratory Medicine after receiving his Master’s Degree in biochemistry from the University of Washington. Chuck’s parents are Graydon and Berdean Rohrer of Madison, South Dakota.
Craig Campbell, ’73, was named director of information technology services for Foss Maritime Company. Campbell serves on the senior leadership team for Foss and reports directly to the president and CEO. This IT leadership role encompasses all Foss Maritime Company operations, including major office in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Long Beach CA. Responsibilities for the ITS staff include personal computing, LAN/WAN networking, Internet, systems and application development and support, telecommunications and wireless communications. Campbell has 25 yeas of experience in data processing, ranging from programming to successively more technical and managerial duties, most recently managing networking, technology and telecommunications. Foss Maritime Company is a major transportation company on the West Coast, with operations extending throughout the Pacific Rim and the Gulf of Mexico. Campbell lives on Mercer Island, WA with his wife Connie and youngest daughter, Kelli. Older daughter, Andrea, attends the University of Redlands. Campbell is a Madison native. His mother, Estelle Campbell, ’41, still resides in town.
John Nyhaug, ’78, was named the 2000 Coach of the Year by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association. Nyhaug is in his 23rd year of coaching at Viborg took his team to a 12-0 record for the season, winning the Class 9B football state title. Nyhaugh won the top coaches honor in 1988 for his work as the head track coach in Viborg. Among the other coaches nominated for this award was Kim Nelson, ’79, head football coach at Sioux Falls Washington. John’s wife, Connie Robinson Nyhaug, ’78, teaches and coaches at Viborg as well. The Nyhaug’s two daughters attend Dakota State University.
Nancy (VanDam) Huntimer Sheridan, ’71, was married in June of 2000 to David Sheridan and moved from Arlington, SD to Center Point, IA. Her husband is the manager of Croell Redi-Mix In Marion. Nancy’s son Jarrod is a senior at SDSU and daughter Brittany is a freshman at Iowa State. Nancy operates an in-home daycare.
Bill Meehan, ‘73 and wife Janet (Christopherson) Meehan,‘73 live in Lead. The Meehans are in video entertainment and restaurants. Their family business is called M & M Restaurants, Inc. You can visit them at their locations at the Rushmore Mall in Rapid City or at Piesano’s Paccia on Canyon Lake Drive in Rapid City, SD. They have two sons, Matt, who was the state Elks free throw champion in 1999, and Michael.

Maureen (Weber) Tagatz, ‘88, is living in Royal Oak, MI.
Brent Wookey, ’84, and wife Chris live in Watertown, SD with their two sons, Hunter, age 4 and Tucker, born in July of 2000. Brent teaches American Studies and Economics at the high school in Watertown and is a coach for freshman football and lower level basketball.
Anna (Siemonsma) Rauscher, ’80, and husband Joseph live in Sioux Falls where she works for the Sioux Falls School District as an educational assistant, a position she has held for over 19 years. She also works past time at Associate Commerce Solutions. She and husband Joseph are also owner-operators of their own trucking business. Although Anna’s day is filled with work responsibilities, and she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in
1985, she still manages to find time to square dance. Shelia (Poham) Koerlin, ’80, lives in Rapid City where she is employed at Modricks Professional Travel. She and husband Bob have three daughters: Kayla, age 12; Marissa, age 10; and Kelsy, age 8. Prior to returning to the travel business in 1999, Shelia was a stay at home mom.Tim Ramey, ’84, has been a realtor for four years. He is currently employed by Coldwell Banker Burnet Realty, which serves all of the Twin Cities area. Tim lives in Cottage Grove, MN and has a 16-year old son, Tim Jr.
Liz Vanhove (Tolley) Avery, ’85, lives in Madison with husband Rich and sons Lucas, 13, and Lance, 10. Liz and Rich were married in May of 2000. Liz is in her 10th year of employment with East River Electric and is currently the manager of administrative services. Rich is in his third year as an assistant professor of Math at DSU.
Dale Mette, ’80 and wife Sandy live in Vermillion, SD. Dale is employed by the Winnebago Public Schools in Winnebago, NE. He and Sandy have two sons, the oldest, Sion, is in the US Navy and younger son, Seth, is a freshman at USD. Dale has been teaching art at ‘Bago for 17 years. He earned an MFA from USD in 1995. He was also a participant in a US Department of Education technology challenge grant involving the arts and technology at ‘Bago with 15 other teachers.
Tim Voigt, ’84, and wife Jennifer live in Shakopee, MN with sons Dylan, Samuel and Aaron. Tim recently began as pastor of Valley View Baptist Church in Shakopee. He graduated from North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls, SD in May of 2000.
Mark Austin, ’86, works for The Boeing Company in Mesa, AZ. He is a Systems Analyst 4 within the procurement department. Mark has been with Boeing (formerly McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems) for thirteen years. His work involves the building the Apache Longbow Helicopter for the United States Army, manufacturing parts for the F15 fighter, the F18 fighter, the C17 transport and miscellaneous missile and weapons for the Air Force, Navy and Army.
Cathy Regas, ’83 is living in Sioux Falls and is a computer teacher at Roosevelt High School. She has two children.
The 90’s
Kristi (Bruening) Baker
, ‘94, is at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, IA, working as the Prospect Research & Project Coordinator for the division of Institutional Advancement. Kristi and husband Brian live in Sergeant Bluff, IA with their AKC registered chocolate lab named Bailey. Kristi is actively involved in the local Jaycees and is a five-year executive board member. She is also involved in the local Multiple Sclerosis chapter. Kristi was diagnosed with MS in 1997. When not busy at work of with her volunteer activities, Kristi written work appears in The Globe, the Catholic newspaper in Sioux City, IA where she is a regular ‘ghost writer’.Sean P. Brenda (Dunn) Girouard, ’95, married James Girouard in August of 2000. She is living in Sioux Falls and is employed at Citibank as a Senior Program Analyst.
Staci Stevens, ’99, is living in Madison and employed at the Madison Community Hospital
Sara (Hookie) VanZee, ’90, married Glenn VanZee in August of 2000. The couple lives in Armour, SD where Sara is in her 11th year as the K-6 Assistant Technology Coordinator and as a teacher at Andes Central Elementary School.
Kim (Erikson) Gilbert, ’92, and husband Erich Gilbert, are parents of Alexa Morgan, born in February of 2000. Kim is a graduated assistant at Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS where she counsels college students. She plans to finish her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling during the summer 2001 session. The Gilberts live in Kirwin, KS.
Robin Hofer, ’97 is living in Sioux Falls and working at Tel-Drug Pharmacy. She is engaged to marry Mike Jaspers in August 2001.
Renee (Swart) Estebo, ’97, and husband Perry live in Redwood Falls, MN. They have a baby boy, Deon David, born in August of 2000. Renee is employed by the Redwood Valley School District as an elementary special education teacher.
Lisa (Lukes) Gonzales, ’97, lives in Sioux Falls, SD with husband Robert and year old daughter Jordyn. Lisa is the office manager at Good Samaritan Lutheran Manor in Sioux Falls.
Cindy Nielsen, ’93, is working at Good Samaritan National Headquarters in Sioux Falls. She is in the information services and technology area for over five years and is currently the information security officer.
Nicole Speilmann, ’97, is the medical records director at Peak Vision Center in Colorado Springs, CO.
Misty (Mason) Collignon, ’96, has been working toward her doctorate in curriculum and development. She and husband Scott live in Ft. Riley, KS where Scott is a captain in the Army.
Jim Mudder, ’93, and wife Samantha (Kastner) Mudder, ’96, have a daughter, Megan Ann, born in November of 1999. Jim is in his sixth year in sales at VanDer Werff Implement in Platte, SD. Sam works as inpatient/outpatient coder at the Mid-Dakota Hospital in Chamberlain, SD.
David Hansen, ’96, accepted a graduate assistants position at the University of South Dakota. He served as the defensive backs coach for the football season and is working on his Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration.
Rachel (Boughey) Poncelet, ’90, and husband Tony have two children, Jacob, born in May of 2000, and Jennifer, age 5. The Poncelets live in Spirit Lake, IA.
Matt Rettmer, ’95, attended the paramedic program at McKennan Hospital following his graduation for DSU. He started as a firefighter/paramedic in Gladstone, MO, a suburb of Kansas City. He was there about a year and a half before moving to Castle Rock, CO. He is currently a lieutenant firefighter/paramedic with Castle Rock Fire and Rescue. Matt and Gene Zoellner, ’95, ski together weekly.
Janelle (Schnabel) Bender, ‘94, and husband Henry have a son Samuel Henry, born in October of 2000. The Benders live in Olivet, SD and Janelle is a stay at home mom.
Lisa Jo (Roth) Johnson, ‘90, and husband Rob live in Aberdeen with sons Riley and Ramsey. Rob works for the National Weather Service out of Aberdeen.
Gloria (Mitzel) Perez, ‘90, is living in Round Rock, TX. She is an Administrative Manager for Compuware for the past two years. She and her husband have a 3 year old son and expect their second son in May.
Tim Smit, ‘92, is employed by Ban-Koe Companies in Minneapolis. His finance, Amy Totzke, ’00 works at Fairview University Hospital. They plan to marry in December of 2001 at a ceremony with their families in Barbados.
